Duties / Responsibilities

1. Responsible for supervising and observing clients, and the implementation of individual vocational plans in consultation with other staff.

2. Meet and work with clients to obtain employment history, educational background and to establish a suitable career goal.  Provide individual, group, vocational and personal adjustment counselling for individuals as required to ensure good work traits, skills enhancement and appropriate attitudes for the workplace.

3. Administer and interpret tests designed to determine the interests, aptitudes and abilities of clients.

4. Assist individuals with intellectual impairments, developmental disabilities, emotional and/or physical disabilities to develop vocational and job maintenance skills to deal with and resolve barriers to employment.

5. Prepare written assessment reports regarding a client's progress and recommendations as to proposed future plans, in consultation with other staff.

6. Assist clients with job readiness skills, job search strategies, writing resumes, filling out applications and preparing for job interviews.

7. Identify personal needs to assist in obtaining employment, i.e. transportation, proper clothing, etc.

8. Collect labour market information for clients regarding job openings, entry and skill requirements and other occupational information.

9. Participate in the development of a client's Job Placement Plan, which will detail the client's employment goals and action plan for achieving those goals.

10. Provide on-going support for clients who obtain employment to ensure job maintenance, including mediation with employer.

11. Develop employment positions with employers in the community that are suitable to the needs, abilities and desires of clients.  Maintain an organized system of recording job openings including names of employers, persons referred, and actions taken.

12. Assist employers to identify, modify, and/or eliminate architectural, procedural, instructional/communication, and/or attitudinal barriers to employment and advancement for persons with disabilities.

13. Enhance disability awareness in the community by educating employers about topis such as job accommodations, assistive devices, services provided by the agency and incentives to employers.

14. Maintain all records and documentation required for program compliance and accountability.

15. Attend staff meetings as required.

16. Others as assigned by the Executive Director.

Requirements / Qualifications

1. University degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, Education or Nursing.

2. Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience.

3. Experience with administering and interpreting standardized vocational assessment tools an asset.

4. Fluency in English - spoken and written; French and/or another language an asset.

5. Good organizational and problem solving skills.

6. Effective negotiation skills.

7. In-depth knowledge of local labour market.

8. Sensitive to issues and barriers experienced by individuals with disabilities.

9. Good computer skills in MS Office Suite.
