Organization Description

SUMMARY:  Liaise with stakeholders and service providers to determine the gaps in knowledge and identify, create and disseminate tools and resources to enhance awareness of Ontario and Peel-based health & seniors’ services.   Plan, organize & facilitate training, information & networking sessions for front line community based settlement workers and other agency staff.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Part Time Temporary

START DATE:November 9, 2009
END DATE:March 31, 2010
SALARY RANGE:$26.00 to 27.00 per hour (depending on experience)

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with settlement agencies, LINC providers, health care providers, seniors services providers and other community-based organizations to identify current tools and resources specific to health care & seniors’ services for newcomers,
  • In consultation with health service providers, Identify and create new resources and tools to help achieve better health outcomes for newcomers.   This will include user-friendly flow charts, health care descriptions and access points.
  • Disseminate and distribute new resources and tools to, settlement agencies front line workers, LINC agencies, health care providers, seniors’ services providers. This will include hard copy distribution of materials through settlement and LINC agencies and information/training sessions for settlement and LINC agency workers.
  • Facilitate meetings with community based workers in groups and/or one on one, to determine the needs of front line workers in delivering seniors’ services & disseminating information to newcomer seniors. 
  • Participate in community and agency meetings, preparing materials and making presentations.
  • Work cooperatively with the project coordinator, and others to complete other activities as required for this project
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent writing skills – particularly the ability to create user-friendly health services & seniors services  materials in collaboration with others
  • Demonstrated effective group facilitation and training skills
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario and local health services and systems and services to seniors
  • Strong knowledge of the immigrant and newcomer community and services in Peel.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with multiple partners and agencies
  • Strong computer skills including Internet research, MS Office and Outlook
  • Completed post-secondary education in a related area – community development, health, social services, etc.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Access to a vehicle
