Organization Description
SUMMARY: The Employment Resource Centre is a busy, public access service point where staff work in a team environment to deliver job search services. While working with clients and colleagues the Resource Specialist will apply a range of knowledge and skills in an environment that is technologically up to date and demanding.

POSITION TITLE:Career And Employment Information Specialist
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Full Time Temporary
LOCATION:Brampton East
REPORTING TO:Coordinator, Employment Resource Centre
START DATE:November 16, 2009
END DATE:March 31, 2010
SALARY RANGE:$40,804-$42,023 per year depending on experience (prorated)
HOURS:35

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Provide new clients with an orientation to the job search process and ERC services
  •  Identify clients initial need and stage in the job search process
  •  Refer clients appropriately to ERC resources and/or community services
  •  Provide on-going coaching, assistance and encouragement to clients
  •  Initiate offers of support including software troubleshooting
  •  Facilitate and develop job search information workshops
  •  Conduct employment related computer tutorials
  •  Create and develop workshop materials, forms and marketing materials
  •  Critique client resume/cover letters accurately and suggest current trends
  •  Ensure all information, resources, equipment are current and familiar
  •  Research and gather information to create new resources and tools
  •  Organize related materials and tools for ease of accessibility by clients
  •  Conduct outreach activities and liaise with community agencies and organizations
  •  Develop and promote greater employer networking opportunities for clients
  •  Encourage client job search knowledge, confidence and independence
  •  Collect ongoing client feedback
  •  Perform front desk and other duties as required
  • Maintain an organized and productive work environment
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Exceptional Customer Service skills
  • Knowledge and experience with job search strategies, current trends and labour market knowledge
  • Knowledge of employment related services and agencies available in the Brampton community
  • Strong facilitation skills with the experience in delivering current job search information
  • Strong computer skills Windows, MS Office, Internet and on-line job search tools
  • Sound research skills
  • Skilled in conflict resolution
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a vital team member
  • Relevant post secondary education with experience in related fields or extensive experience in the field of employment
  • Experience working in an environment of diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Languages in addition to English an asset.
