Duties / Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY: The main purpose of the job: The Business Career Manager will work closely with students and prospective employers to facilitate and coordinate career-related activities and opportunities for MBA students. The incumbent coaches and counsels students on job search skills, provides resume guidance and advice on career paths. A significant amount of time is spent organizing four, one-week Career Advantage Programs (CAP Weeks) that focus on job search skills, and increasing student knowledge of various industries. The incumbent works with the Director to market students to prospective employers, liase with corporate partners in the recruitment process, primarily with the On-Campus Recruitment program. In addition, the role requires time developing and nurturing our network of alumni and corporate contacts. The role is supported by an MBA Career Assistant, who reports directly to the MBA Career Manager. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The job’s main duties and responsibilities. Coach and counsel students one-on-one and through on-line, seminar and classroom/large group formats Develop and foster corporate partners in the recruitment process, and support their efforts to attract MBA students – primarily through the on-campus recruitment program Coordinate and implement CAP programming, focus on job search skills and increasing student knowledge of selected industries Prepare and coordinate career-related marketing literature (resume book) Supervise Career Assistant Work with the BCC Director on joint initiatives Work with the Director of MBAst program on issues that impact the career prospects of students Sit on the admissions committee for MBAst student intake decisions, and operations committee for MBAst daily operational issues

Requirements / Qualifications
|
REQUIRED BACKGROUND: Preferred background (formal training and experience) needed to perform the duties of this job. Graduate degree (MBA or MPA preferred) undergraduate degree and relevant experience in counselling or recruitment is essential Familiarity with a university environment (Queen’s School of Business knowledge an asset) Understanding of the hiring needs of corporations/businesses Experience in designing and delivering workshops or post-secondary courses Experience in interviewing a definite asset
SPECIAL SKILLS: Special skills or talents required for the job (such as language, computer, human relations, technical or analytical skills). Ability to foster and cultivate relationships with existing and potential employers and corporate partners Ability to foster and cultivate relationships with alumni Ability to relate to graduate students through one-on-one counselling, group workshops and classes Ability to assess priorities, handle many projects simultaneously and work in an energetic fast- paced environment Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills Ability to critically evaluate resume and cover letters Maturity, tact and empathy
DECISION MAKING: The types of decisions regularly made on the job (eg. directing inquiries, determining content of documents, allocating work and resources). Work with the Director in implementing strategy for Business Career Centre Apportioning tasks and responsibilities to Career Assistant Implementing professional development modules Developing marketing materials to promote students to the corporate community Advising recruiters and scheduling information sessions Maintaining relationship with Queen’s Career Services SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: If yes to the above, the following duties are performed for direct reports.
