| JOB REQ. #: | 101-QCIC- 2 EXT | | POSITION: | Information Counsellor, Newcomer Information Centre | | TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: | Full-time Regular | | LOCATION: | Brampton | | REPORTING TO: | Team Lead , Newcomer Information Centre | | START DATE: | August 11, 2009 | | ANNUAL SALARY: | $44,000 to $45,000 per annum (depending on experience) | | SCHEDULE: | Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm (Some Evenings & Saturdays required) | | HOURS: | 35 hours per week | | BENEFITS: | Yes | SUMMARY: To provide information, referral and assistance to clients at the Newcomer Information Centre to address their settlement needs and conduct group Orientation and Information Sessions.

Duties / Responsibilities
|
| DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES | § Research and compile settlement and employment related information for newcomers
§ Research and compile employment and accreditation related information for foreign-trained professionals and skilled tradespersons.
§ Organize Information Sessions presented by representatives from Regulatory Bodies, and government institutions or any other sectors on a needs basis.
§ Develop and present information sessions on settlement issues on need basis
§ Research information on new government policies and related programs and services
§ Collect, organize and file hard copies of flyers, brochures, and pamphlets of programs and services offered by government and agencies serving immigrants.
§ Liaise with District School Boards, settlement agencies, community agencies, English Testing Centres, HRDC offices, Ontario Works, and partnerships in Peel, Regulatory Bodies
§ Maintain and update existing information related to a variety of training programs
§ Maintain, update and expand information files in the Centre including internet sites
§ Refer clients to appropriate settlement, training or other programs
§ Conduct individual and group orientation tours of the site and offer general information assistance to clients and service providers.
§ Disseminate NIC information to the local government agencies, immigrant serving agencies
§ Assist in the development of advertising materials and pamphlets for the Centre and prepare them for translation
§ Assist in the collection of statistics and preparation of material for reports
· Require to work evenings and Saturday mornings |

Requirements / Qualifications
|
| QUALIFICATIONS: | § Post Secondary or equivalent education
§ Strong internet research skills
§ Knowledge of immigrant and refugee issues
§ Knowledge of licensing processes for professionals and skilled trade workers
§ Knowledge of programs & services offered by settlement/immigrant serving agencies
§ Knowledge of government programs and eligibility criteria
§ Flexible, self-motivated, ability to multi-task and to deal with all levels within an organization
§ Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and leadership skills
§ Good presentation, problem solving, organizational and project management skills
§ Demonstrated experience in dealing with multicultural and disability issues
§ A language other than English is most desirable
§ Experience in the field of adult education and training
· Knowledge of labour market trends |
